Types of fish farming in Egypt
1. Farming in earthen ponds
Most common in the Delta.
Uses agricultural wastewater with simple treatment.
Suitable for tilapia and mubarak.
2. Intensive farming (concrete or industrial)
In small concrete ponds with high production.
Requires artificial feeding and careful environmental monitoring.
Often used in new cities and desert areas.
3. Semi-intensive farming
A combination of natural and industrial.
Relies on partial water purification and limited industrial feeding.
4. Marine aquaculture (in cages or coastal farms)
In the Mediterranean or Red Sea.
Species: sea bream, sea bass, shrimp, sea bream, mullet.
5. Integrated aquaculture with agriculture
Use of fish farm water to irrigate crops.
Achieves resource efficiency.
6. Aquaculture using RAS (recirculating aquaculture system)
High-tech water recycling within the system.
Reduces water loss.
Suitable for desert and enclosed areas.
