The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Fish Resources: In light of the potential repercussions of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, policies must be adopted that aim to reduce the dam's potential impact on fish production, through the following:
**Introducing new varieties that can withstand expected changes in water quantity and quality.
**Establishing joint projects between the governmental, private and cooperative sectors in the field of natural fisheries and fish farming with African countries that have available water resources.
** Implementing tools and policies aimed at achieving effective management of natural fisheries to maximize the yield from water bodies.
** Activating the role of fisheries extension services to raise awareness among those working in various fisheries activities.
** Encouraging modern aquaculture systems that rely on water conservation and recycling.
** Improving water use efficiency and obtaining the highest possible output from available water resources.
Proposals for Developing Fish Resources in Lake Manzala:
** Increase the effectiveness and scope of the fisheries extension service to raise the knowledge and implementation level of fishermen in developing Lake Manzala. This can be achieved by persuading fishermen of the fisheries extension recommendations regarding fishing methods and monitoring their implementation, as well as developing and planning training programs in fisheries extension aimed at bridging the knowledge gap and maximizing fishermen's implementation of fisheries extension recommendations.
** **Activating the role of the water police, eliminating dens of thuggery and the fry mafia, increasing the penalty for illegal fishing and confiscating equipment, creating a protected area for fishing within the lake, and carrying out continuous cleaning of the lake to improve its productivity.
Proposals for Developing Fish Resources in Lake Bardawil:
**Studies have confirmed the feasibility of investing in mechanized vessels operating in Lake Bardawil. In this regard, efforts should be made to increase the stock of high-value fish fry through lake management, while maintaining fishing effort levels, in order to increase the quantities of these fish caught, especially sea bream and sea bass. This would then lead to an increase in the number of fishing grounds and fishing areas for vessels, and the activation of research institutions to develop fishing technologies within the fishing industry, particularly the "Dabba" method (which involves fishing for bottom-dwelling fish).
