
The first part of the history of the establishment of the Union
Establishment of the Cooperative Union for Fisheries Wealth
On 19/12/1959, the following fishing cooperative associations met to establish a nationwide Cooperative Union for Fisheries Wealth, including all fishermen’s associations:
- Fuad Ahmed Hedia – Cooperative Association of Mechanical Fishing Vessel Owners, Port Said
- Saleh Mohamed Ahmed – Al-Qabouty Fishermen Cooperative Association
- Ahmed Mohamed Abu Awad – Cooperative Association of Mechanical and Sailing Fishing Vessel Owners, Suez
- Al-Husseini Mohamed Kamouna – Adko Fishermen Cooperative Association
- Adel Ahmed El-Zein – Mechanical Fishing Vessel Owners Cooperative Association, Alexandria
- Al-Sayed Ali Youssef Saada – Burullus Fishermen Cooperative Association
- Mohamed Youssef Sediq – Port Said Fishermen Cooperative Association
A temporary founders’ committee was formed consisting of:
- Fuad Ahmed Hedia – Port Said Mechanical Fishing Vessel Association
- Saleh Mohamed Ahmed – Al-Qabouty Fishermen Association
- Ahmed Mohamed Abu Awad – Suez Fishing Vessel Association
The committee was responsible for completing all procedures of establishment and announcing it.
The specialized Cooperative Union for Fisheries Wealth was registered at the Ministry of Social Affairs under No. 21 of 1960 and published in the Egyptian Gazette, Issue [66], dated 25 August 1960.
On 25/10/1960, the temporary founders’ committee met at the office of Mr. Fuad Ahmed Hedia, chaired by him, with Mr. Saleh Mohamed Ahmed as secretary and Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Abu Awad as member. The committee decided to call the first general assembly of the union to convene at 6:00 PM on Thursday, 10/11/1960, at the temporary headquarters of the union in Zahraa Building No. 7, Garden City, Cairo, to consider the following agenda:
- Accept new members
- Approve the establishment expenses submitted by the temporary founders’ committee
- Elect the first Board of Directors of the union
On Thursday, 10/11/1960, the first general assembly convened, chaired by Mr. Fuad Ahmed Hedia (temporary president of the union and representative of the Port Said Mechanical Fishing Vessel Cooperative Association) with Mr. Saleh Mohamed Ahmed as temporary secretary (representing Al-Qabouty Fishermen Cooperative Association), and attended by representatives of the founding associations (8 associations in total). The assembly decided:
